The Navajo Department of Behavioral Health Services provides a variety of programs for people who want to recover from addiction. It is run by the Navajo Nation in partnership with the Red Cross and serves the Navajo communities of Albuquerque, Canyon, Durango, Window Rock, Page, and Tuba City. The program is an outpatient center, so clients may be admitted at any time. They are also able to stay in the program for up to six months, and the number of days may be increased if their recovery needs are so significant that they cannot wait.

Alcohol treatment programs are offered at the Center in Tuba City, but it may also include other services like drug and/or alcohol counseling. The center provides these services in addition to counseling for other problems related to substance abuse. A group therapy session may also be offered for people who have specific issues with friends or family members. The center does not offer detoxification but does provide safe storage of detox products. Detoxification at the center takes place in a one-story detox facility, which is furnished with an onsite medical physician, an onsite nurse, and a 24 hour on-site emergency response team. Family, friends, and other outside agencies can also refer clients to the center.

If a client decides that he or she needs help with a co-occurring addiction, they are referred to a detox team that specializes in treating co-occurring disorders. They work with counselors and therapists who will work on the client’s problems and address his or her addiction. They work with the Center in Tuba City and the detox team to ensure that the client is able to maintain sobriety.
