The Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Phoenix houses thousands of registered veterans and their family members. One of the most frequently used facilities in the Phoenix area for veteran treatment is the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, or VAMC. The facility is located north of Phoenix in the northern suburbs of Phoenix. It is one of the largest Arizona hospitals and is home to the largest outpatient alcohol and drug rehab program in the state. There are three main treatment centers within the facility. These include the New Beginnings Drug Rehabilitation Center, the South Valley Drug Rehabilitation Center, and the Phoenix VA Healthcare Outpatient Care Program.

As a part of the Arizona Department of Veterans Affairs, the New Beginnings Drug Rehabilitation Center is one of the largest such facilities in the country. This center is intended to provide treatment to those with a substance abuse problem, including alcohol and prescription drugs. The center has four different units that offer a variety of services to the patients that are in its care. The primary unit serves as a residential facility for the patients and their families, while the other centers house outpatient substance abuse treatment and residential alcohol and drug detoxification units.

The South Valley Drug Rehabilitation Center is the largest facility of its kind in the Phoenix area and is devoted to providing long term inpatient substance abuse treatment to its clients. This center boasts twenty treatment units and seven full-service clinics. Many of the services provided by this facility are covered by Medicaid, which serves as a great source of funds for any VA medical facility.
