A guitar smashed by the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain hit the online Auction block this week. The black and white, Fender Stratocaster was used by Cobain during Nirvana's In Utero tour.
One-of-a-kind items once owned by Kurt Cobain will hit the online auction block this month as part of a large rock and roll memorabilia sell-off. The auction, run by the online-based company Gotta Have It! Collectibles, will include a guitar smashed by the late Nirvana frontman. The black and white, left-handed Fender Stratocaster was used by Cobain during Nirvana’s In Utero tour. According to phoenixnewstimes.com, Cobain smashed the guitar and then proceeded to drill a hole into the center of one of the pickups. The starting bid on the guitar is $50,000 and it will reportedly include a pick used by Cobain. In addition to Cobain’s smashed axe, the auction will also include the guitar strap used by Jimi Hendrix when he first lit his guitar on fire at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. The seller of the guitar strap was reportedly in the audience at the performance 40-plus years ago and caught a portion of the flaming guitar after Hendrix hurled it into the crowd. The online auction started Wednesday, July 13 and will close on Friday, July 22.
