Third Eye Blind guitarist Tony Fredianelli confirmed in a recent interview with Alternative Addiction that in addition to the band’s upcoming album Ursa Major, which is due out June 23rd, the band will release a second album, Ursa Minor. While Ursa Major will contain the main tracks that the band has spent the past few years working on, Ursa Minor will contain what sounds like a collection of b-sides not featured on the Ursa Major release. “Ursa Minor will contain other songs we have been collecting since its been taking years to finally finish this record,” explained Fredianelli. “We are going to put it out on the heels [of Ursa Major], about six months later. It will have between 10 and 15 tracks.” In the meantime, Fredianelli and the rest of the band will focus on the upcoming release of Ursa Major, and picking the next single to follow up “Non-Dairy Creamer,” which hit radio last fall as a single off the band’s Red Star EP. “We’re [still] trying to decide right now what the next single will be. “Non-Dairy” charted pretty well on Alternative, [so] I think we are going to come with another rock song.” The writing process for Ursa Major was a very long one, with the album over 3 years in the making. In the end, Fredianelli thinks fans will feel it was worth the wait. “It’s been frustrating, but what can you do? You have to get the inspiration, and finally its all come through,” said Fredianelli on the drawn out recording process. “We were waiting a long time on Stephen to finish his lyrics, he’s finally gotten inspired and its really coming together nice, I have a good feeling about this record.” Fredianelli was so proud of the new record he said the he thinks fans might even enjoy it more than the band’s multiplatinum selling debut. “I really do, there is so much blood, sweat, and tears on this record that it feels like its going to have wings. Every song I have heard sounds like it jumps out of the speakers”
