The Used have pieced together dozens of video clips of frontline workers submitted by their fans to create the official music video for their latest single, “Lighthouse,” featuring Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus.
“I give myself to the shipwrecked/I give myself to the no way home/You tore myself into pieces/And nobody noticed at all” the tune begins.
The video features clips of hospital staff including nurses and doctors, grocery store employees, truck drivers, teachers, restaurant workers, and more.
“Doubt can be an avalanche. It can cascade out and infect everything it touches. Inspiration is also infectious,” shared frontman Bert McCracken.
“The original chorus lyric was ‘I can’t be your lighthouse’ until I was reminded by my six-year-old daughter that I can be and I am,” he added. “It helps to remember that we all have the capability to inspire someone in our own way. Please enjoy our song The Lighthouse as much as we do.”
The bandmembers, as well as Hoppus also make an appearance in the video from their respective homes.
“I’ve been friends with The Used for a long time and was stoked to be invited into the studio with them,” Hoppus said. “The Lighthouse is one of those songs that came together very quickly, with everybody excitedly throwing ideas around. What emerged from the session is a track we’re all very proud of, and I hope everyone likes it as much as we do.”
