Los Angeles-based rock outfit, Sugarcult, will release the follow up to their acclaimed, 300,000 unit-selling debut album Start Static, on March 9, 2004. The new album, entitled Palm Trees And Power Lines, was produced by Gavin MacKillop and will be released by the Ultimatum/Fearless Music Group. Since Start Static’s release in 2001, Sugarcult has been rewriting the book on how to succeed in post-millenial rock & roll. Taking their characteristic DIY attitude to the limit, the band brought its case directly to the people. Over the past two years, the band has crisscrossed the globe nonstop, playing hundreds of shows, sharing the stage with such bands as The Strokes, Good Charlotte, The Hives, The Ataris, The Vines, Sum 41, Radiohead, Blink 182 and Jimmy Eat World, to name a few. Along the way the band found fans at Modern Rock Radio and MTV 2 with three successful singles, made national television appearances and earned the respect of magazines like Alternative Press, Rolling Stone and Kerrang! But just because the outcome was positive, doesn’t mean the road wasn’t long and sometimes difficult. During their time on the road, the band blew out six tires on their RV, four on their trailer, were arrested in NY’s Times Square, side-swiped by a drunk-dragracing teenager in Pittsburgh, and caused structural damage to a historic landmark in Detroit (the floor of the legendary venue St. Andrews Hall partially collapsed during one of their performances, leading to a full evacuation), just to name a few misadventures.
