The Red Hot Chili Peppers were forced to cancel their headlining slot at KROQ’s annual Weenie Roast after vocalist Anthony Kiedis was hospitalized with severe stomach pain. Bassist Flea apologized to the packed house at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater after Kiedis was rushed from the venue to a hospital.
“We are unable to play tonight. We will be playing for you very soon and we will play for you like the feral animals full of love that we are,” Flea said. It was later announced that Kiedis had caught an intestinal flu.
RHCP’s cancelation left the closing set to Weezer. Other acts featured at the Weenie Roast included Panic! at the Disco, Empire of the Sun, Lumineers and Blink 182.
“NO one’s more disappointed than us that we couldn’t perform tonight. Sending love and a speedy recovery to my brother Anthony,” drummer Chad Smith wrote on Twitter after the cancelation.
