Nashville based, Oregon born platinum songwriter and musician Mat Kearney is excited to be releasing new single “Better Than I Used to Be” today via his new partnership with Caroline. The song is a collaboration between Mat and electronic producer AFSHeeN, who has worked with Galantis, Selena Gomez and Madonna among others and the first to come from Kearney’s forthcoming new album due in 2018.
“Better Than I Used to Be” is also Kearney’s first new music since 2015’s Just Kids album that featured hit singles “Heartbeat” and “Air I Breathe” and had Kearney kicking off the release with a TODAY show performance and interview. It also continues Kearney’s sonic journey with genre blending that was first heard on his soulful hip-hop infused pop album Young Love – released in August 2011. Young Love debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, #1 on the Top Digital Albums and #1 on the iTunes Overall Albums Chart where it ousted Adele’s 21 from the top spot. The album also earned Kearney performances on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Rachael Ray and garnered raves from Entertainment Weekly, USA Today and Marie Claire among others.
In addition to sales success and critical acclaim, Kearney has always been a favorite amongst music supervisors and his music has been featured in countless television shows and films ranging from Soul Surfer and Parenthood to Girls, The Closer, Friday Night Lights, NCIS, 30 Rock and Vampire Diaries.
