Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds has launched a campaign to raise awareness about ankylosing spondylitis, an autoimmune disease and a type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine.
Reynolds discussed being diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, or AS, and his new campaign “Monster Pain in the AS” in an interview with Fox News.
“It’s a really scary thing when you’re meeting with doctors and they don’t exactly know what it is, or they think they know what it is and argue with the other doctor that you saw,” Reynolds said. “So you’re continually being kind of ping-ponged between a bunch of different doctors.”
“It’s frustrating, you feel like, ‘What’s wrong with me, and why am I different than everyone else?’ And that’s [what] this campaign is – to raise awareness,” he added. “People start to say, ‘Ok, we know what this is, we’ve heard about it, maybe that’s something that I have.'”
The campaign’s website includes a short quiz to help people with back pain determine if they may be suffering from the illness and how they can find help.
Reynolds also revealed in the interview with Fox News that he and his wife, Aja Volkman, are expecting their fourth child in October.
In January, Reynolds said he and his wife were “rebuilding” their marriage after announcing a split last year.
