One week after releasing a cover of Toto’s “Rosanna,” Weezer has dropped a new cover of “Africa,” paying off an Internet campaign from a fan, whose Twitter account is @weezerafrica, who lobbied for months to get the band to cover the song.
The Internet movement, started by a 14-year-old fan named Mary, has been striving to get the band to put their spin on the timeless song. They even caught the attention of Toto’s David Paich. “Hey Rivers Cuomo, I’m just gonna leave this right here,” he wrote last year on Facebook.
As @weezerafrica noted this week, “Looks like @Weezer finally blessed the rains.” when the band released their version of “Africa.”
Weezer has been hinting at a 2018 release for their self-titled Black Album.
