Don’t look now, but The Unlikely Candidates are surging with their latest single, “Novocaine.” So far, the song has accrued approximately 8.5 million streams on Spotify and is in the top 10 at alternative radio. The music video for the song is a hit too. It’s been streamed over 10 million times on YouTube and over 17 million worldwide streams.
The recent success for The Unlikely Candidates has been a grind. They’ve been active for over a decade with a few highs and plenty of lows. It seems appropriate that “Novocaine” has been out since May and it’s only starting to really get attention seven months later. A huge amount of credit is due to the band and their current partners for continuing to push and believe in a great song when it didn’t get the attention it deserved instantly.
The band released a very cool lyric/time-lapse video for the song at the end of the summer. The video was filmed in lead guitarist Brent Carney’s Dad’s bar in Forth Worth, Texas. The video provided a shot in the arm to the song.
The Unlikely Candidates spent most of 2019 touring nonstop with the likes of The Score, The Goo Goo Dolls, and Mariana’s Trench. After a short break for the holidays the band will be back on tour starting in January for a run of headline dates starting in Covington, Kentucky.
