The Killers paid tribute to The Cars frontman Ric Ocasek by performing a cover of “My Best Friend’s Girl” during their show at the Wind Creek Event Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, last Thursday. Midway through the performance of their own “All These Things I’ve Done,” the Killers started singing the cover of “My First Friend’s Girl,” the second single off The Cars’ self-titled debut album, with fans applauding the transition and reciting the highly popular chorus. Ocasek passed away last week after battling heart disease. Killers frontman Brandon Flowers tweeted after Ocasek’s passing, calling him, “my first king.” The tweet contained a note he personally sent Ocasek about buying The Cars Greatest Hits cassette tape when he was 13. In 2018, Flowers inducted The Cars into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and called them “the first band I truly fell in love with” during his speech. “The Cars had it all: the looks, the hooks, Beat-romance lyrics, killer choruses, guitar solos that pissed off your parents, dazzling music videos,” Flowers said then. “He was one of the world’s most enigmatic frontmen, with his cool, detached vocals—an inscrutable Dylan and Velvets fan with a very stylish jacket pocket full of power choruses.” Copyright(c) 2019 RTTNews.com.
