While it may have been four years since Gavin Rossdale has been involved the music making business, that’s not long enough to prevent the former Bush front man to make a return fronting his new band Institute. “I wanted to . . . make it very spacious and very muscular,” Rossdale says of his band’s tentatively self-titled disc, which is produced by Helmet’s Page Hamilton. “A stripped-down kind of record was the intention.” First single “Bulletproof Skin” is due to impact radio this summer, while a video helmed by xXx director Rob Cohen is in the works. Don’t expect this record to musically resemble his former post-grunge band, as Rossdale said he wants this album to be much heavier. “I didn’t want to do a softer record than Bush, because I thought that would be maybe more expected,” Rossdale said. “I thought what would be cooler would be to do something a little bit heavier, a little stronger. I wanted to make a more forceful record.” Look for the new record from Institute to be in stores this fall.
