Death Cab for Cutie have confirmed May 31st as the release date of their upcoming seventh album, “Codes and Keys.” The album was self produced by band guitarist Chris Walla and mixed by Alan Moulder. The album will also feature additional instrumentation, such as “great, weird, analog synths” and “a string section on a couple songs,” explains bassist Nick Harmer. This will complement the group’s traditionally guitar-driven sound. Said Harmer in an interview with Billboard magazine, “This is our seventh album and now, almost fifteen years in, it’s still really exciting to get back in the studio — there’s still so much musical territory to cover together.” Harmer also added that the latest album will feature a more mature, balanced sound, noting, “I think all we’ve been doing as we grow older is just finding a balance between being in a band and not being in a band.”
