Death Cab for Cutie have unveiled details of their upcoming summer tour. The band’s busy schedule includes a series of major North American, European, and Australian festival appearances, as well as a number of eagerly awaited headline dates around the world. The Seattle-based band launched their busy summer on Memorial Day weekend with a Sunday night co-headline performance at their hometown Sasquach! Music Festival. On Friday, June 16th, Death Cab will hit Manchester, Tennessee for an appearance at the much-anticipated Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. From there, the quartet cross the Atlantic for two weeks of shows, including headline dates in London, Leeds, and Amsterdam, along with performances at such renowned European festivals as Denmark’s Roskilde and Scotland’s T In The Park. Death Cab will then head Down Under for a half-dozen headline and festival dates throughout Australia. After a brief late July respite, they’ll return to the road in August, kicking off with an August 3rd appearance at the Kuyahoga Festival at Cleveland’s Blossom Music Center along with The Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth. The next day will see the band heading to Chicago’s Grant Park for a prime spot on the annual Lollapalooza lineup. And as if that weekend weren’t busy enough, Saturday, August 5th will find Death Cab in Lawrence, Kansas, headlining the inaugural Bleeding Kansas Arts & Music Festival (other acts include Broken Social Scene and Keane). The following evening, Sunday, August 6th, will see the start of Death Cab’s headline tour of the western U.S., beginning at Denver’s Fillmore and followed by stops in Utah, Oregon, and California. The band recently added second shows at the Greek Theatre at UC Berkeley and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles after tickets for the initial dates sold out instantly. Joining Death Cab on all dates will be acclaimed indiepop duo, Mates of State, with Spoon also sharing the bill on the California itinerary. In other news, “I Will Follow You Into The Dark,” the latest single from Death Cab’s acclaimed album, “PLANS,” has just shipped to Alternative and Triple A radio outlets nationwide. The video for the song was recently shot in Romania with director Jamie Thraves, best known for his work with such artists as Coldplay and Radiohead. Further, the band visited Atlantic City earlier this month, joining a stellar lineup for VH1 Classic’s Decades Rock Live tribute to Elvis Costello. In addition to Death Cab versions of the Costello classics, “Accidents Will Happen” and “Kinder Murder,” singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard also performed an acoustic duet rendition of “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” with the evening’s honoree. The Decades Rock Live concert – which also features appearances from Fiona Apple and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong – is slated to air on VH1 Classic later this summer.
