Chris Cornell has posthumously reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart with his cover of Guns N’ Roses’ 1989 hit “Patience.” The cover of “Patience” rose 2-1 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart dated October 3, earning the late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman his second No. 1 as a soloist and first as a solo lead. Cornell previously topped the chart for two weeks as a featured vocalist on Zac Brown Band’s “Heavy Is the Head” in May 2015. He also earned six No. 1s on the Mainstream Rocks chart as lead singer of Soundgarden and topped the chart twice as the frontman for Audioslave. Billboard noted the original version of “Patience” by Guns N’ Roses reached No. 4 on the all-format Billboard Hot 100 in June 1989 after hitting No. 7 on Mainstream Rock Songs that March.
