The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan gave an acoustic performance of “Hard Times,” a track from his 2019 solo album Cotillions, on the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: At Home Edition” on Monday. Corgan, wearing a black bucket hat and quarantine scruff, slightly increased the pace of his strumming that night, moving effortlessly through the verses to hit “Albion sweeps limb from limb/As plucked by poison quill/But don’t stand still/It’s hard, it’s hard times.” The song was released in November 2019. Corgan’s previous solo effort was Ogilala in 2017. The same year, Smashing Pumpkins released their Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.. The band, whose scheduled North American tour this April has been postponed to October because of the coronavirus pandemic, is reportedly working on a couple of new albums.
