The Indie Song of the day comes from Matthew Szlachetka – or how the Nashville-based artist goes by Szlachetka. It’s pronounced, Sla-Het-Ka – he’s kind enough to throw that in there with his submissions/releases.
Szlachetka just dropped a new single called “Lifeboat” this past Friday and that’s the song we’re featuring. The song was produced by Scott Underwood, a Grammy-winning producer and the drummer/founding member of Train.
The song was recorded at Blackbird Studio A and Thunderwood Sound in Nashville last year and had some major Nashville talent help them out in the studio including Jimmy Wallace on keys (Joe Walsh/The Wallflowers), Christian Wood on upright bass (Sara Evans, Leigh Nash), Julio Diaz on trumpet (The Mavericks), and Craig Ferguson on lap steel.
The song was co-written by Szlachetka and Tim Jones and it’s about their shared experience living in L.A. and moving to Nashville. Szlachetka says the song is about, ‘nostalgia and honoring the past… but also about moving yourself forward and persevering to the future. Everyone has a lifeboat at some point to keep them comfortable and safe, but at some point we all have to let go so we can keep moving forward. Listen to “Lifeboat” from Szlachetka below and be sure to look out for more from Szlachetka on Spotify, Apple Music, and other notable DSPs.
