The Indie Song of the Day comes from genre-transcendent alt punk folk rocker Lily Vakili (of the Lily Vakili Band.) Vakili was born in Honduras during a military coup but she’s based now in New Jersey. Her father, who was born in Iran, shaped Vakili’s life by being a bit of a renaissance man himself, he was a boxer, artist, and scientist who traveled the world studying diseases in tropical plants. “My dad had to walk over bloodied soldiers in the hospital to welcome me to the world. He’s always said that set the stage for everything else in my life,” says Vakili. Lily’s currently working on her second band project – and the song we’ve got today is part of that. She’s got a new EP due out in 2020 that was produced by David Amlen of Sound on Sound Studios. We’ve got the lead single from the effort, a hard-rocking empowerment anthem called “She Wants What.”
