Although the Red Hot Chili Peppers are currently on hiatus, the band continues to get into the headlines. Bassist Flea went back to school and now Anthony Keidis’ 2004 autobiography Scar Tissue is set to be adapted into a TV series for HBO. The network, which has been responsible for original series like The Wire and The Sopranos, will air the show that is certain to be at least a little controversial. Scar Tissue is based on Keidis’ life growing up in California living with his father. Keidis’ father, Spider was a drug dealer to rock stars on Sunset Strip in California at the time. The show is set to be produced by Marc Abrams and Michael Benson for Catapult 360. About the show, Abrams told Variety, “To be able to look at a very famous figure and get an origin story, to see the pieces of the puzzle that put him on the path to fame – it became very clear that this was a special project,” Keidis added, “I love mulling over all this raw material. [My father is] into it too. He sees it as our last great hurrah. For us to be reconnecting to construct these memories – the women and the rock bands and the doormen of these clubs – is exciting.” The series is in it’s early stages and it’s not known when they will start production. The series will be a focal point for the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ frontman, the band said that they will be on hiatus for at least a year, which was said in October of 2008.
