Momentum is building towards the March 24th release of the new studio album by Blue October, Approaching Normal, and the follow-up to the band’s 2006 platinum plus-certified Foiled. The Steve Lillywhite produced Approaching Normal features the first single, “Dirt Room,” which is already Top 15 (in four weeks) on the Mediabase Alternative Chart and makes its debut this week on the Active Rock chart. The video for “Dirt Room,” is also making a big splash. Not only was it added to MTV2 and MTVU but the video premiered on Yahoo.com which currently averages 24 million in audience. Although the sound of “Dirt Room” is sonically harder and edgier than Blue October’s previous hits, “Hate Me” and “Into the Ocean,” its lyric continues along the same emotionally charged and vivid visual path as both of those Modern Rock hits. Lead singer, Justin Furstenfeld explains when asked about the lyrics of the song “it’s too dark and personal, I don’t think you can print that”, but adds, “It’s about fighting back…to put an END to those who think they can hurt the ones you love.” Another song from Approaching Normal, “Kangaroo Cry,” will reach audiences via one of the most popular television shows in America, CBS TV’s NCIS. Blue October will join the company of heavy hitting superstars, all of which have contributed brand new songs, like Bob Dylan, Oasis, Seether, Dashboard Confessional and Perry Farrell, on the NCIS: The Official TV Soundtrack.Due out on February 10th, “Kangaroo Cry” was the inspiration for the storyline of an upcoming episode of the show. Coming off of a successful run of sold out dates in Europe last month, US fans can catch the band play their new material, including “Dirt Room” and “Kangaroo Cry” as well as fan favorites this spring.
