Collins himself noticed the tribute and hit Twitter to thank the Keys for their rendition. “Beautiful, super & great, fact!!!@@!!!!!!!-Edwyn,” he wrote on the site. Collins released the cut on his 1994 album Gorgeous George. According to SPIN, the Keys give the song their own unique twist. “In typical Keys fashion, lead singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach funks it up significantly to the point where ‘Girl’ sounds like it could’ve been on any of the band’s most recent albums.” In addition to playing the song in Columbus, the Keys have also played it in Toronto and Grand Rapids, Michigan.
