The Indie Song of the Day comes from Chicago band The Sheaks. They’re a four piece act featuring brothers Matt and Will Sheaks, Chris Cortez, and Justin Moore. They don’t call themselves indie though… for the love of all that is good and holy don’t call them indie. They’re alternative or new alternative, and we’ll agree with them.
They just released a new double a single with two songs, “Revenge is a Song Best Played Loud” and the song we’re featuring, “Madchester.”
Appealing to potential listeners, Matt Sheaks had this to say: “If you only have time to listen to one of the songs, listen to “Madchester,” much as it pains me to admit, since I didn’t write that one (ce la vie…I’ll win next time! Ha!) That’s my brother’s song, and it’s really catchy.”
Oh, and the whole indie rock thing – Matt said this:
“I personally believe “indie rock” means nothing anymore (everything is “indie” so nothing is “indie”…which is boring) and bands who are sick of the McDonald’s music smothering pop culture should call themselves “New Alternative” because THAT’s what we are and should be…the home-cooked meal you should be eating. That’s what New Alternative is, in my mind.” Listen to “Madchester” from The Sheaks below:
