Dreamworks has been bought out by Universal Music, it remains to be seen what will happen to bands like Alien Ant Farm, and Jimmy Eat World who are currently signed to Dreamworks.
The price tag may have only been 100 million, but DreamWorks records is now owned by the largest record company in the world Universal Music. It remains to be seen what will happen to the remainder of the DreamWorks roster including the bands Alien Ant Farm, The All-American Rejects, Jimmy Eat World, AFI, Lifehouse, Papa Roach, and the late Elliot Smith. The DreamWorks label will become part of the Island/Def Jam label, which also swallowed up MCA Records earlier this year. Traditionally, label buy outs don’t tend to effect the big name acts on Major Labels, but the lesser known bands are severely hurt when many of them are dropped or in danger of being dropped due to the new managementthey are under. Bands like Lifehouse, Ours, Eels, Blinker The Star and many other struggling acts might not find their new home as comfortable as with DreamWorks.
