500 Days of Summer Original Soundtrack
So the general overall mood to 500 Days of Summer… is odd. Joseph Gordon-Levitt can’t get over Zoey Deschanel in the movie and he can’t move on from her, and can’t move past here. The soundtrack to the movie is a refreshing approach to selecting music for a movie and it’s got a focus as a compilation and a focus as an album that I haven’t seen on a soundtrack in a number of years. In the movie The Smiths play a huge role in the film because both characters dig the music- on the soundtrack they have two songs; “There is a Light That Never Goes Out” and “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want.” There’s even a cover song of “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” by She & Him to complete the Smiths’ connection to the soundtrack. The Smiths are awesome but that’s not where this compilation wins you over. The intro on track one sets up Regina Spektor’s “Us” perfectly and better than that- every track moves seamlessly from one to the next on this compilation. Great songs and great placement make the soundtrack to 500 Days of Summer a great pickup.
