Shinedown

Amaryllis
Artwork

The first single off of Shinedown’s latest, Amaryllis is terrible. “Bully” might be one of my least favorite songs from a favorite band, maybe ever. Needless to say, I was terrified that the rest of the album was going to follow that pattern; mindless rock songs that capitalize on a current issue. Amaryllis isn’t that album, but it definitely has a vibe that says, ‘Look, this is meant to be commercially viable. We’re hoping that five of these songs blow up at radio and we can keep doing what we’re doing.’ To a degree, that makes the album seem less like a Shinedown album. That being said, I don’t dislike it. Brent Smith teamed up with David Hodges and a few other co-writers to pen songs for the album, and the some of that works great.
