Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds

Oasis was one of the classic groups of the last two decades and while you never hoped they would stop making music you knew they’d either kill each other or break up. The two brothers squabbled privately, squabbled publicly, and they’ve now taken to press interviews to take pot shots at each other. Oasis is done for now, and they’ve got their separate ways. Liam Gallagher and the rest of Oasis moved on to Beady Eye. Noel Gallagher has since moved on to a solo album of sorts, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and out of the two groups and the two albums, this one is my favorite. Noel’s voice isn’t as wispy as his brother’s is, it’s a little deeper and it has a little more character to it. That gives an extra push to the excellent songs that he’s written here. The songs are fantastic too. If this album were an Oasis album it might have been a fan favorite. The writing is brilliant but the added horns and accents give it some very strong brit-pop characteristics. Really, this is just a tremendous record and a fantastic listen. Gallagher’s songwriting is top-notch and his voice is an asset not a hindrance. Oasis fans aren’t going to experience the magic that they got with the first Oasis album all those years ago, but this is the closest thing that you’re going to get to it these days.
