Andy Grammer’s debut album is a good one. Despite a persistent buzz, people were casually wondering if Andy was going to be a one-hit wonder with “Keep Your Head Up.” Despite it being a great song and Andy being a great artist, that song has a huge Jimmy Ray quality about it. After hearing Andy’s follow-up single “Miss Me” and the rest of the record the one-hit wonder questions will be laid to rest. Andy’s debut album is packed full of great melodies and catchy hooks that will have you listening to these eleven songs over and over again. It’s a great album that compares well against other solo singer/song writer debuts like Jason Mraz, Eric Hutchinson, and Gavin DeGraw. I’d say that Andy’s debut beats all of those albums, something that can’t be taken too lightly because all three of those artists had great debuts. These songs are just written well, they’re written insightfully and they’re produced masterfully. The only knock with this album is that in the middle it’s a tad repetitive from song to song. It’s repetitive, but then there’s always a vocal run or a hook that brings the attention right back to the listener. “Keep Your Head Up” is great, but there’s so much more than that to this record.
