She Wants Revenge

Valley Heart
Artwork

She Wants Revenge’s third album is easily their best. The concept album about the San Fernando Valley is dark and broody. Pretty much it’s what you’d expect from She Wants Revenge. The difference between this record and the previous two albums though is that they branch out in a dozen different directions from that initial Cure-esque sound and even though that broodiness abounds in most of these songs, not one song on this album sounds like another. The unique qualities of each of the songs make this album the most enjoyable SWR album yet. “Must Be the One” draws some heavy Edge/U2 influences. “Holiday Song” brings to mind several new wave music influences of the eighties, and “Not Just a Girl” brings to mind some of The Cure’s more modern works. No song sounds like another on the album but the typical qualities that turn people away from She Wants Revenge still exist. The songs don’t all sound alike but they are all the same type of songs. After 30 minutes or so it gets a little old. That will turn more than a few people off from this album but it won’t by far turn everyone away. This is She Wants Revenge’s best work and for the people that are into the genre… they’ll be listening to this one for a long time.
