Most bands evolve and Limbeck are no exception. Choosing to wander from the path that initially had them labelled as Cheap Trick wannabees, Limbeck have casually strolled into alt-country territory. 2001 saw the band release their debut album ‘This Chapter is Called Titles’, their first material of any note if you don’t include the preceding split e.p ‘Connection’.
Crisp melodies are retained but the whole affair is far more laid back and retro than previously, with the song titles-in particular ‘Honk and Wave’ and ‘Brand new Orange’- betraying an almost hippy-like attitude toward life. The reverberating chiming guitars leave their indelible mark on the Oasis tinged ‘I Wrote this Down’ and the shimmering Eagles-esque ‘Gamblin Man’ and although nothing commercial truly stands out, you sense that Limbeck would only have it that way on an album that really is perfect for those long lazy summer afternoons.
