Gorillaz

The third album from the Damon Albarn led project The Gorillaz is an interesting effort. Albarn no longer leads the way on most of these tracks. He sings a chorus or just sings on the record maybe 25% of the time while rappers and other cameos take up the brunt of the tracks. It's odd not having Albarn dominate the sounds on the album but the music that he created for the effort is pretty solid. This is a record with a few odd moments just like any Gorillaz record, so that's to be expected. What’s unexpected however is how unappealing this album is to the masses. "Stylo" is the only 'true' single on the record when listening through it the first couple of times and everything else can qualify as an album track. Not because they're bad songs, just because they weren't designed with any other medium in mind other than just listening through the album. Albarn's work with the Gorillaz has always been interesting to listen to and this time with all the guest spots on the record and the lack of interest in mainstream appeal, "Plastic Beach" is the most interesting Gorillaz record yet.
