Kongos

A re-release, Kongos self-titled album originally came out in 2007 and it’s a good set from the accordion-fueled band that was clearly ahead of their time when this was originally released. The opening track pulls you in with its original Mac speak – “In The Music” is a fun song to start an album with. After the title track, the album never really loses any ground. It’s easily a cool enough album to warrant a rerelease. Dylan Kongos’ vocal is as addictive as it is charismatic. The accordion by Johnny Kongos is a focal point that no other band has. When it’s accompanied by really cool rhythm parts, a listening experience like no other album is put in place. “Lunatic” was the break out album for Kongos here in the U.S., but their title album is a better set. If you’ve come to like the band in the last couple of years, then you’ve probably already heard this debut. If you’re a fan and you haven’t gravitated back towards it yet, you probably should.
