The Maine

American Candy
Artwork

The Maine’s latest, “American Candy” is a lot like their last four albums. That’s not a bad thing. American Candy is another great album from a band that’s done really nothing but that over the past eight years.

Although they don’t do anything that’s altogether different from anyone else or from what they've done in the past, it really doesn't matter. At this point, all this Arizona-based band does is create good music. On this album, the lone moment that’s really different from anything that they've done before is when they add in a bit of synth and flirt with the new wave genre. That’s about it. The rest of the album is all incredibly well-written and recorded. There are a few songs on this album that go into the pile of classics from The Maine including “English Girls”, “Miles Away”, and “Same Suit Different Tie.” That’s really all the band needs to accomplish with each record these days.

After “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” if you would have told me that The Maine would turn out to be one of the hardest working bands in all of music and despite all of their success – still highly underrated, I would have told you that you were nuts. Yet, that’s what happened. All the band had done is work and tour the right way and make amazing music. The latest just adds to that trend.
