Mat Kearney

JUST KIDS
Artwork

Mat Kearney’s latest album is his most personal – something that I didn’t think was possible. It’s an emotional gripping album that beckons back to Kearney’s first album with Aware almost ten years ago, but tells the story of Kearney’s life. From when he was a kid, to now. It’s the most autobiographical album that I’ve ever listened to.

The album is a very personal story for Kearney, but in addition to that it might be the album that represents himself artistically better than any other album he’s put out. It’s more of a defining record than his first album and far better than his previous two albums. He’s also rapping like he used to back before and on album one. Normally, I’m not a fan of rapping in the genre because it feels so out of place, but for whatever reason it seems to work for Kearney.

Kearney’s latest is his greatest. I can honestly say it goes on my list of top 50 albums of all time. Not so much because of how great the music is – honestly it is great – but because of how personal it is. I’ve never heard album quite like this, odds are you haven’t either.
