Arctic Monkeys

Favourite Worst Nightmare
Artwork

Last year the Arctic Monkey’s hit the music scene in a big way. Gaining Grammy nominations, getting acclaim from the underground and the mainstream alike, and not just earning fans in the UK or the US, but earning fans worldwide. Their album “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” went on to sell a ton of copies and that set them up for this sophomore release “Favourite Worst Nightmare.”

The turnaround on this second album is amazing. They might have pushed this out faster than any young band has ever released a sophomore album. The incredible thing about this is that it’s not just as good as the band’s first album. It’s twice as good. I actually wasn’t really all that into the Arctic Monkeys the first time around, but this time I’m definitely on their side. This album rocks.

Admittedly it took me a song or two to get into the swing of things with this album, but once I did I was really into it. Every song on this album is great, there’s not really one that stands out from the others. This is a complete album, and that’s rarely done these days. My favorite thing about this album is how far this band has come in just a short time. With their debut you could liken them to The Strokes, The Vines, and whoever the hell else, but this time they’re better than all of those bands. “Favourite Worst Nightmare” overshadows everything that any of those bands have ever released. And if The Arctic Monkeys keep this up those bands won’t even be able to be in the same sentence with them.

This is definitely an album that you need to listen to. I wouldn’t say it’s for everybody just because it’s hard to get into, but give yourself a couple of songs before you turn it off. You’ll find yourself getting into the Arctic Monkeys. Great Album.
