Carey Ott

Lucid Dream
Artwork

The cool thing about Carey Ott is that when his Chicago band Torben Floor broke up because it couldn’t get a label deal- Ott got one of his own. Tapes were passed to producers, important people were involved, and the story ends with Ott signing with Dualtone Records and releasing “Lucid Dream.”

Carey Ott’s debut “Lucid Dream” is a good debut for Dualtone Records. It’s nothing extraordinary but it has its strengths. “Am I Just One” starts out the album well and “Daylight” hits a home run at track two. The lyrics and the mid 90’s rock similar to Everclear vibe that’s going on in “Daylight” make it one of the best songs I’ve heard in a while. The problem with the record though is that a lot of the songs on the album either sound similar to “Am I Just One” or “Daylight.” There’s little variety in between the two. “You Got Love” is another good track coming in at number 8 and the follow up song “Mother Madam” at track 9 isn’t bad either. This album has strong moments- it just has forgettable moments too

Ott’s “Lucid Dream” is a good start. He’s obviously a talented song writer with lots of potential. While that potential may not be reached with this album, but it’s a good preview for things to come.
