Plain Jane Automobile

After recording a 3 track e.p, and walking off with the prestigious Discmaker award in 2005, great things were expected of Orlando’s Plain Jane Automobile; not least the release of a full length album. Disappointedly we get another e.p, this time a five song affair with the band still shopping themselves-with their newly acquired management group-for a record deal. Sounding like the more commercial offspring of Alabama’s Eyes Around, Plain Jane Automobile have in the past shared a stage with the likes of The Stereophonics. No surprise then that their British music influences shine through on the indie pop of opener ‘Close My Eyes’ the U2 tinged ‘Tear Yourself to Bits’ and the remaining songs on the e.p. Competent and stylish with the talent to match Plain Jane Automobile appears to be pressing all the right buttons, whether the potential can be fully realised is open to debate. Until a full album is released the jury remains nervously out.
