Monday Morning

Fools Paradise
Artwork

One listen to this classy debut album from Christian alt rockers Monday Morning leaves little doubt that great things are expected of them in the future. Signed some years ago by a major label, and then dropped almost immediately due to internal record label politics, Monday Morning could be forgiven their feelings of Deja vous when the same A&R guy turned up to sign them for a second time for the fledging Selectric label. Produced expertly by John and Dino Elefante, ‘Fools Paradise’ has enough edge to appeal to the rock brigade, but enough melody to achieve significant radio airplay. ‘Desperate’ (Cold Play meets Oasis), ‘Next Year’ (The Academy Is meets U2) or ‘Breakaway’ (Nirvana meets the Blood Violets), show an eclecticism that is nevertheless chart-worthy. Opener ‘Sunshine’ and the clout of ‘Vanity’ bring to mind fellow Christian rockers Switchfoot, but Monday Morning far from being copyists add their own original slant to the genre, making 'Fools Paradise' one of the year’s essential albums.
