Northmont

Waiting
Artwork

Formed out of the ashes of Auryn, North Side Tribe and Mercy Woods Northmont offer the kind of appeal that endeared us to The Calling and even Familiar 48. Indeed, both appeared on major labels, whilst astonishingly, given the quality of the production, this is an independent release. Hard work and an undoubted pedigree opening for bands like Kings X and showcasing for labels such as Virgin, Hollywood and Columbia have galvanised Northmont into an extremely competent unit.
Songs like ‘Gone’-perhaps the best song that The Calling never wrote-together with the sublime ‘Waiting’ and the edgier ‘Something Else’ all showcase Ward Bell’s exquisite Alex Band-like vocals. The two standout ballads on ‘Waiting’ are undoubtedly ‘Be Right Here’ and ‘Breaking’ although if there is one criticism of the album as a whole it is the inclusion of far too many slow tempo songs during the latter half. That said, this still remains a noteworthy album, with Northmont making a healthy claim to the crown of The Calling who it appears have gone on permanent hiatus.
