Trapt

Someone in Control
Artwork

Progressive nu metal high school dropouts Trapt release their second album for Warner after seemingly disappearing off the face of the earth after their debut.
The band that were originally signed to Immortal for just 8weeks and consequently dropped because they didn’t sound like Incubus, have a point to prove after a long hiatus and a successful debut. ‘Someone in Control’ works on the theory that if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it, unsurprisingly continuing where its predecessor left off. Radio friendly hooks ride the swell of heavy riffs on ‘Disconnected’ and ‘Waiting’ whilst Seattle Skins beater Aaron Montgomery adds to the underlying appreciation of early nineties grunge. ‘Skin Deep’, ‘Stand Up’ and ‘Repeat Offender’ echo bands such as Papa Roach and P.O.D and whilst generic it avoids the plagiarism that has become the trademark of the pop punk genre. With a greater sense of dynamics than many purveyors of the genre and huge self belief, there is no reason why Trapt cannot once again take up poll position at the front of the nu metal grid
