Imagine Dragons recently put out the outstanding LP, Evolve and as part of the promotion cycle for that they also just put out Live At AllSaints Studios. The EP is short, containing just four acoustic songs, but it still leaves a lasting impression.
Three songs from Evolve and an Alanis Morrissette cover are included in the set. The songs from Evolve are the singles – “Thunder”, “Believer”, and “Whatever It Takes.” All three of the songs have some interesting acoustic nuance or not-quite acoustic element to them that make them different from the average acoustic performance. They use the ‘thunder’ sample in the song with the acoustic performance – something that would be a little weird if they didn’t. They also use a few beats here and there along with brushes on a drum on “Believer.” It’s not a strict all-acoustic EP, but it something different and entertaining. Dan Reynolds’ voice is great here just like it is on the traditional recordings. Listening to “Whatever It Takes”, his ability as a performer really shines through. Plus, they did a cover of “Hand in My Pocket” from Alanis Morrissette and more than do the song justice.
This EP is a decent four-song collection of acoustic music that will fit alongside of Evolve nicely when you’re trying to get your Imagine Dragons fix. The album is great and this EP is too. If you’re a fan of the band then you won’t want to miss this.
