Buckcherry

Black Butterfly

Following up a monster record like “15” was not going to be easy. Do you just go all out and try and out do it? Or do you just stay the course and do your own thing? Buckcherry did a little of both with “Black Butterfly” they come out of the gates with “Too Drunk…”, a song that’s a little risqué, just like “Crazy Bitch”. It sure seems like they’re trying to follow a formula. The second single the band comes out with is “Rescue Me”, a heartfelt, I hate myself but I love you song, kind of like “I’m Sorry.” Do we seem to be following a trend here with those two songs? Yes. Does the rest of the album follow the pattern of 15? No. Most of the time it doesn’t even try, it tries to dive into retro-rock categories of other sorts like older Buckcherry did. It succeeds in places, in fails in others and there’s not a lot more that you can say other than that. “Don’t Go Away”- good, “Tired of You”- bad. “Fallout”- good, “A Child Called ‘IT’”- BAD. So there you go. Not a bad record, but not nearly as good as 15. They spent forever out promoting 15, and did a great job with it, they should have taken more time off between that record and “Black Butterfly” because even though it tries to be original, it doesn’t succeed at it.
