Goo Goo Dolls

Volume Two
Artwork

You’d expect this to be released closer to Christmas and not the middle of the Summer, but regardless that’s where we’re at with Goo Goo Dolls “Volume Two”, a collection of album tracks that didn’t get as much attention as they deserved, a few covers, a demo version of “Iris” a few live tracks and generally what you’d expect as far as a B-Sides disc goes. It’s not a bad collection of stuff- “Long Way Down” didn’t make “Volume One” so it’s cool that it made it onto “Volume Two.” The only thing that this set is missing is a band version of “I’m Still Here” by Rzeznik. If that were on this disc it would have made “Volume One” and “Volume Two” a complete look at the Goo’s career in what amounts to roughly three hours of stuff. As is though, this disc and the first disc add up to a pretty good retrospective look of what the Goos are all about. As far as Volume Two goes, it’s a B-Sides disc and a pretty good one at that- it actually features some album tracks, the demo version of “Iris” is decent and the covers are all pretty decent. What makes this disc great though is the DVD that comes packaged with it- it comes with tons of music videos- you can laugh a little bit at Johnny Rzeznik’s hair progression over the years- and you can also kind of tell when this band got a budget to do anything it wanted by watching those videos. The videos and the twenty-two minute set of songs that we’re recorded live at Red Rocks… you’ve got a great DVD set. As with all of these collections, this one could have been better if they fixed this or that, but all total The Goo Goo Dolls and WB have put together a pretty good product for Goo Goo Dolls fans.
