Greenwheel

Soma Holiday '00 - The Indie
Artwork

Greenwheel returns with an interesting release, a re-release actually, of their independent debut album the band originally released in 2000, which ultimately led to their signing with Island Records. Now that they’ve cut their ties with Island, they have re-issued this album. This album is clearly a stripped down version of the band, exposing the diamond in the rough that this band was five years ago. Instead of riding on the strength of the layered guitars and tight production like their major label debut, this album makes it mark with the pure emotion that lead singer Ryan Jordan pours into every track. The album opens with “Drowning Man” a much faster paced version than the one that found its way onto the major label debut. The album then features “Holding On” and “Sticks and Stones” two angst filled tracks that display the raw talent that this band possesses. An early version of the track “Louder than Words” is followed by the soaring sounds of “Regardless”, perhaps one of the most well written songs on the album. Also impressive is the track “I Don’t Believe” which Greenwheel claims was always one of their most popular tracks at their shows. Understandably so, this ballad highlights Ryan Jordan’s incredible songwriting ability, and unmistakable vocals, backed by a stripped down guitar. Considering this album was written almost five years ago, one listen not only develops a perspective on where Greenwheel came from, but where this incredibly talented band is headed.
