N.E.R.D.

Seeing Sounds
Artwork

It doesn’t always make sense and it doesn’t always hit where it should, but N.E.R.D.’s third album “Seeing Sounds” is a decent set of intriguing material that isn’t really meant to be sat down with and understood. It’s great music for clubs and stuff like that and it’s better music to just randomly listen to. The Neptunes definitely know how to produce hit music, even hit rock music, with their most recent adventure producing The Hives. What’s interesting is how their own individual music strays so far from their production talents. Overall N.E.R.D.’s third record is a decent set; “Time for Some Action” is a fun introduction to the album. “Windows” sounds like they might have taken something away from producing The Hives and “Sooner or Later” is like an updated oldies track with some cool beats. The best moment on the record comes with “Spaz” though, not because every time I listen to it I think of the Zune commercial, mostly because it’s just random, sputtering, insane music that’s a good time to listen to. If you’re looking for something to change your life, look elsewhere, but if you want some random music to listen to for an hour that showcases three production talents making their own music, look no further.
