Orson

Bright Idea
Artwork

L.A’s best kept secret are surely destined for greater things if this-the band’s first full length album-is anything to go by. Quality pure pop fusing a streetwise tenacity to a keen sense of theatrics make Orson stand out clearly from the pack. Vocalist Jason Pebworth-after a stint in the Broadway musicals ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’-paints the soulful pop and R&B canvas with a Freddie Mercury or Prince-like quality whilst his band-mates, most notably the aptly named bassist Johnny Lonely, add a shady debonair atmosphere to the Motown/Stones cool of ‘Happiness’ or the cooler still ‘Last Night’. ‘Already Over’ is reminiscent of what Butch Walker was writing on Marvelous 3’s ‘Hey Album’, whilst ‘Look Around’ is a good a brooding ballad as you are likely to hear. Named after Citizen Wells and with a reputation for playing any live gigs offered to them it is surely only a matter of time before Orson receive the break that they wholeheartedly deserve. Quality never goes out of fashion.
