Say Anything

Say Anything
Artwork

If you’ve listened to the last two Say Anything records you know how brilliant and crazy the music is. Three albums in for RCA/J Records that stays constant on this self-titled album. Max Bemis has this delivery that’s oddly frightening and addictive at the same time. You listen to the album and at times you find yourself thinking of Jack Nicholson in The Shining. You see that face singing some of these lyrics. Then you start to get a little scared during the songs because you realize that you’re relating to what Bemis is saying. This record is just like the other Say Anything records, it is a roller coaster ride of reactions. The difference between this album and those previous two records is that this record is curved more towards the pop genre. Regardless of the four lines or so in the lyrics about farts, “Do Better” is an amazing pop song. “Hate Everyone” is almost as impressive. And “Fed to Death” could possibly be the coolest intro track on an album ever. Say Anything’s self-titled record is their best record, and something that everyone can enjoy if they’re trying to escape the norm when it comes to pop music.
