Breaking Benjamin

Dear Agony
Artwork

Breaking Benjamin’s new album doesn’t do anything that their previous work hasn't done. “Saturate” is one of the best label debut’s ever, but on “Dear Agony” it feels more like a collection of songs than an album. This album sounds a lot like the band’s previous three, but let’s be honest: At some point, a band is a band. Their sound is their sound and that’s who they are. It's greedy to think that Breaking Benjamin is going to evolve drastically from album to album, because that didn’t happen and it never will. Instead of an amazing album experience here you’re getting 11 new Breaking Benjamin songs that are killer. That’s the way you need to look at it. A lot of these songs are awesome, title track= awesome, “Lights Out”= Awesome. “Fade Away”= Super Awesome. So there are good songs here and songs everyone can like but songs that are Breaking Benjamin songs. That’s simple. The songs are good. And people are going to like the record, but it doesn’t feel like there’s a cohesive ‘special’ effort to make it an album. That's the only knock. Regardless of how the songs fit together, there's a lot to be liked here and you can't discredit that.
