Sick Puppies

Tri Polar
Artwork

The Sick Puppies are a good band. A very good band, but good bands tend to lag on second albums. The first album features songs you’ve had for awhile, your best work. The second album features songs that most of the time, you wrote for that record. Bands have to adjust to be creative while being successful and that’s damn hard for lots of bands. I don’t know if that’s what happened with the Sick Puppies, but it would make sense. On Tri Polar there are some good songs, and Shimon Moore can write some good songs and the band can come up with some great hooks. But something with Tri Polar is lost. A lot of it has to do with the production being a little too shiny and the band’s ‘dirty’ sound from that first record is a little lost. Another part of it has to do with their being no clear-cut, legitimate Alternative/Active hit on this record. “Should’ve Known Better” is the closest thing to that on this record and it’s really not that impressive of a song… it’s just okay. The one song that really strikes me as a great song is “Don’t Walk Away”- it’s the song that will be passed along to mainstream markets. And it could do really well. You never know. On first lesson this record isn’t bad, but it’s not that impressive. I have been wrong before. I very well could look back a year from now and say- wow that was a great record. But still the current status is- the Sick Puppies are an awesome band but this is just an okay record.
