Evans Blue

Evans Blue's new self-titled album is their first album without front man Kevin Matisyn and with new lead singer Dan Chandler. Both singers are extremely talented but it's not really fair to overanalyze and compare them. The two are drastically dissimilar, so much so that Evans Blue with Dan Chandler is almost a completely different band from Evans Blue with Kevin Matisyn. I don't think they are a better band without Kevin and with Dan but they aren't really worse either... Chandler did a good job with this album. He does a great job with all of his melodies and shows off the fact that he has a lot of talent. But it's almost like the band on this album is a separate entity than the band on the two previous albums. The songs on this album aren't songs that would be on the previous records. Gone are a lot of the darker themes to the music and some of the more unorthodox lyrics. In its place is a bigger focus on the music. While the voice has changed the band remains the same. There's just as much thickness to this album as there was to the previous two. The music is better than it's ever been with more solos, more thickness, and heavier hitting tracks. The band remains awesome. This album is going to be a transition album for Evans Blue fans more than it is for Evans Blue. Matisyn will be missed, but Evans Blue with Dan Chandler is shaping up to be a pretty good band and there are lots of songs to like on this record.
